Today was a day of exploration and spending some down time with the friends we have created here. After a devotional in the morning about finding God in your valleys (James 5:7-8), Matt met us at Meg's house to take us on an adventure for the day! We started with a stop at a local coffee shop before taking a drive to one of the local dormant volcanos. The hike through the rainforest was a good cardio workout, but we also enjoyed watching the leaf-cutter ants carry their spoils up the trail, the myriad of butterflies, and listening to the tree frogs. As you crest the top of the volcano, it drops into a deep crater with a sulfuric lake at the bottom. How amazing is God's creation! This volcano last erupted in the 1600s, which left the massive crater that now has a lake. There is a trail that goes all the way around the volcano, but we did not have time for that today. We headed back down the trail and then enjoyed a peaceful ride to a local lunch spot.
After lunch, we stopped to check in on a few patients from the week. We first stopped to see a family who had spent a ton of time with us on Wednesday. The kids were still carrying around their bags of crafts, and they were all so excited to see us! The family wanted to take a picture after we had sat and fellowshipped for a while. It was hard to say goodbye! We then checked on a dog at Matt's house and another sick dog that Dr. Bri had treated on Tuesday. Everyone was doing well, and we loved having some more time to spend with the people!
Everyone who was free for the evening joined us for supper at an amazing restaurant run by a French Chef. The food was fantastic! We sat, fellowshipped, and laughed before we were finally stuffed with an amazing dinner and a chocolate mousse with ice cream for dessert. This week, with all of these beautiful people, has been nothing short of amazing! We have seen God at work here in the people and even more so in those who were volunteering and helping us throughout the week. We are going to miss this group of people so much until we come again! Please be praying for Meg and Matt, for their ministries and how they are reaching the local people. Also pray for Angel, Javier, Torii, and all the other people we met and worked with this week! They have plenty of work ahead of them, and we pray they continue to see God at work in the people around them. Tomorrow morning, we will leave for the airport to head home. Please be praying for safe travels and smooth sailing through customs so we make our flight to Charlotte!
